I know. I’ve used this header before … A couple of times actually. It’s the only one that accurately describes the week that we’ve just had.

On the night of Monday August 3rd, at 10pm we experienced what could only be described as a plumbing emergency. Our toilet decided it’d had enough of this life and finally decided it was time to go to god. So, by 10pm Monday night we had a leaky toilet and no idea how to fix it

Tuesday morning, we decided to call a plumber so, at 6.45am I was reaching out to Irwins Plumbing Service for help. To say I / we were stressed was an under statement. We knew it was going to be costly ( We didn’t know how much at the time) and I had to wrangle our finances to ensure we could cover it

For those that are not aware, we live in a rental. We’ve lived in this rental since 2001. Mid 2002 the unit was sold ( We went with it) and our new/ current landlord gave us a lease for 12 months. That lease expired in November 2003. Since then, we’ve been on a month by month basis and as such our landlord has not done so much as a property inspection or performed any routine maintenance. In fact, asking him to do so is like pulling teeth ( aka nigh on impossible) so, for the most part, we’ve attempted to fix stuff on our own.

By Tuesday afternoon, Carlos from Irwins Plumbing came by to assess the damage and give us a quote to fix it. As predicted it was a costly exercise, nonetheless I arranged to have someone come by on the Thursday of that week to fix it

In the interim my my nerves were shot and having the added stress of work being busier than a one legged man in a hopping contest did very little to help matters.

Thursday morning hubby and I were up at the god awful time of 4.30am with the promise of a plumber being on site at 7am. Naturally, 7am came and went. By 9.40am I had called Irwins Plumbing to enquire as to our plumbers whereabouts and was told we’d been placed in a window that was in fact between 9am -1pm and we were the next job on the guys list.

At 12.49pm Trent entered the chat.

Trent as it turns out was our plumber and he was running a little late after being held up at the previous job.

He arrived at around 1.15pm and commenced work straight away. It took him all of an hour to fix it and he did a bloody fantastic job! Not only that, when all was said and done, the job came in $104 cheaper than originally quoted – so I was happy with that.

Trent, if you ever read this, good job mate! We’re super happy with the work you’ve done! 5 stars to you friend!

Despite this, I still wish it was money we didn’t have to spend. We’re now having to put the money back and that means things are going to be a little tight for a while. Ugh!

Being an adult sucks balls!
